More than 500,000 individuals have died within the U.S. from COVID-19 because the pandemic hit this nation and the world simply over a 12 months in the past. NPR is remembering a few of those that misplaced their lives by listening to the music they cherished and listening to their tales. We’re calling our tribute Songs Of Remembrance.
My mom favored Mexican country-style songs, from the likes of Dueto America, Antonio Aguilar, Jorge Negrete, Juan Gabriel, Johnny Cash and different related artists. When my mom was alive, she would take heed to this model of music when within the automotive and on the porch listening. She would sing out loud and I’ll at all times keep in mind the smile and happiness she had. She was a cheerful and joyful human being. My mother would sing and could be smiling. She was somebody who favored to have firm round and her face would simply glow within the presence of others. She was a cheerful particular person.
The music that my mom listened to had which means, coronary heart and soul. It jogs my memory of the nice instances that we had collectively. Spending time collectively at completely different locations, equivalent to on the park, mountain, the seaside and eating places. For instance, the tune “I Walk the Line” by Johnny Cash would remind me of my mom as a result of within the lyrics, “I find myself alone when each day is through / As sure as night is dark and day is light / I keep you on my mind both day and night / And happiness I’ve known proves that it’s right.” My mom has and can at all times be essential to me.
