A glacial burst in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district triggered an avalanche and large flooding of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers on Sunday morning, forcing the evacuation of hundreds, and inflicting injury to homes and the close by Rishiganga energy undertaking. Disaster response groups have been deployed to conduct search-and-rescue and reduction operations. The Army has dedicated 4 columns and three helicopters are already working. Around 100 to 150 folks could have been killed, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Om Prakash advised information company ANI.
